The intent of this blog series is to introduce our church to people serving in various ways throughout our church body, people you may know well or not so well, so as to give us all an opportunity to learn more about each other, learn from each other, and be mutually encouraged in God's gracious work through us, as instruments in His hands.
This month's volunteer being interviewed is Lisa Riviere, who helps coordinate the MOPS ministry hosted at 3RG:
I have been privileged to be a member of 3RG since it first began.
What are some of your favorites hobbies/things to do with your free time?
My first thought is: what is free time :)? But in reality, I love to spend time cooking, crafting and sewing during any time I get.
How long have you been involved with the MOPS ministry?
I have been involved in the MOPS ministry for the past 18 years. I began in MOPS when Rachel was just born and I was new to the area and very alone in my mothering journey. MOPS was an amazing support for me with fabulous biblical teaching and has grown me so much as a mom.
What makes you most excited about MOPS ministry?
It is hard to know where to begin. I love it that MOPS is a place where moms can find encouragement in their mothering journey. Moms can realize that they are not alone and most importantly hear about the love of Jesus and the hope that only He can give. I love it that MOPS is a place where nonbelievers come. Women who would never come to church on a Sunday morning come meeting after meeting to be encouraged and loved on. These women hear the gospel and we have been blessed to see women come to know Jesus, as their personal savior. It is wonderful how God uses a ministry like MOPS to provide encouragement and training for moms in all stages of life.
Why do you believe the MOPS ministry is an important part of our church life?
MOPS is a vital ministry for 3GC because moms today need to be taught about Jesus and trained and mentored in mothering as is talked about in Titus 2. Moms need to know that Jesus is their only hope. MOPS gives us a wonderful opportunity to invite the unchurched moms in our community to a time of fellowship, encouragement and biblical mentoring. MOPS is crucial because better moms make a better world and each mom's life impacts the next generation. MOPS is amazing for the moms and at the same time as the moms are meeting, the children are meeting and being taught about Jesus. I love it that MOPS is teaching these little children about Jesus. Many are listening and asking questions about Jesus.
Please pray for this ministry as we seek to serve the Lord together. Pray for the Lord to bring the unchurched moms, especially in our community. Pray that He would soften and change hearts and make us more like Him.
