It was a joy on Sunday to worship with the folks at Providence Church in the south hills. I have appreciated getting to know their Pastor (Mike Pierson) over the years. I have also heard many very positive comments from those who have attended Providence. So it was exciting to finally be able to visit, myself. Pastors don’t typically get out very much to visit other churches!
The preaching swap idea came up when Mike and I were talking at a pastor’s gathering a few months ago. I’m glad we pursued it. I trust that 3RG was blessed by the preaching of Pastor Mike. And I hope that the connection between these two churches can grow in the coming years and be a mutually edifying relationship.
Providence has a simple mission statement: Treasuring Jesus Christ and inviting others to do the same. This aim was evident in their worship service. There was an emphasis on joy. There was a direct appeal to everyone to enter in to the joy of knowing Christ.
I would encourage us to pray for Providence Church. Pray that God will use them to have a tremendous Gospel impact in this region. Pray for their leaders. Pray for those who serve in countless ways. One significant task that is ongoing for them is setting up and putting away their equipment every Sunday, since they meet in a school.
In so many ways, I felt very much “at home” at Providence. The passion, the convictions, the God-centeredness . . . It’s a good reminder that we have like-minded friends in other churches in this region, and these are relationships worth investing in.
The purpose of our church blog is to serve the overall mission of our church: to delight in the beauty of God's greatness,
