In recent months we’ve have shared quite a bit about the new plan that God has put in the hearts of the leadership. It’s a plan for multiplication. Rather than seeking one larger facility in a central location, we are instead planning to further establish the ministry in Elliott and also seek a second location to hold services and host ministries. If you were not here for the “Gospel Growth” sermon series, I would encourage you to listen to those.
The following is an update on how these plans are progressing in terms of further clarity on preparation, timing, and location.
We have spent time preaching on this vision. What we want to do in the coming months is focus on praying for this vision. On July 14th many of us gathered at the Overlook to pray together for this vision. We also have a prayer guide available for you to use personally in your prayer times and also in your small group prayer times.
Another key piece of moving forward in our multiplication efforts is to see our small groups multiply this fall. The vision and hope for our small groups this fall is that we will be intentionally inviting and welcoming new folks into these groups – neighbors, friends, co-workers, family. We want to have clear, Gospel studies that will be mindful of having unbelievers present with us.
If you’re interested in leading or co-leading a group like this, please plan to attend the small group leader meeting on August 10th @ 7pm at the church building.
In terms of the timing for launching a new location, we’d like to plan for some time in the spring of 2015. Of course, this depends on finding a place. It also depends on how we’re able to plan for additional ministries and increasing our volunteer involvement to make that possible. But we’d like to put a goal out there so that we have something to work toward. We’d like to focus on the multiplication of our small groups this fall, and then hopefully be able to plant in a new location sometime in the spring.
We shared before that we were focusing on the North and East as possible areas. We have thought and discussed and prayed about this. We have analyzed maps that chart where everyone from the congregation lives and where like-minded churches are. We’ve also thought about population in various areas and population growth, as well as accessibility. We want to be in a place that opens up a new region for us to reach out to.
We want to be reminded, too, that our hope is for further locations down the road. We’d love to see several churches planted throughout Western PA in the decades to come. So just because we’re honing in on one area right now doesn’t mean we’re ignoring other areas that would also be good places to plant.
With that said, the area we’re planning to be focusing on is north of the city. We have a good group of folks from the church living north of the city, and there’s also lots of growth happening in Cranberry and the surrounding communities. So we’ll be starting to investigate rental properties that could serve this purpose, hopefully in a location that would be easy to access from 79 and 279, making it a short drive from Cranberry. So we’re roughly thinking of somewhere around Wexford or Warrendale.
We ask you to pray for all of this: for God’s clear guidance in every detail, for God’s provision of a building to meet in, for volunteers to be involved where needed, for our small groups this fall, and that God would allow us the privilege of seeing many people come to know Jesus Christ.
The purpose of our church blog is to serve the overall mission of our church: to delight in the beauty of God's greatness,
